Taste of Students’ Talents as Leeds Loves Food Launches

Artistic students from Leeds City Colleges gave the public a taste of their talents when they helped to launch this year’s Leeds Loves Food.
Combining chocolate, confectionary and art, the College exhibited some unique sweet sculptures, made by staff and students from creative arts and bakery, including a giant chocolate lion and huge ‘sweetie’ dress, in the Light retail and leisure complex.
First year Fine Art students also helped to create a number of ‘giant sweet faces’, including James Martin, Marco Pierre White and Raymond Blanc, all of whom have restaurants in Leeds.
The College took up the challenge of creating a large Leeds Loves Food logo, using an assortment of fruit and vegetables sourced from Kirkgate Markets.
The event, held on Thursday (June 23rd), launched the start of Leeds Loves Food, the city’s festival for food lovers, which runs until the end of July.
Organised by Marketing Leeds and Leeds City Council’s events team, Leeds Loves Food is a rare opportunity for producers, chefs and restaurants in Leeds to showcase their businesses to those who live and work in the city and to potential visitors.
In addition to the annual programme of events which will see college tutor Stephanie Moon and student James Carden cook up some dishes for visitors in the demo kitchen, for the first time over 100 stallholders will descend on Millennium Square from Friday (July 1st) for three days at the Yorkshire Food and Drink Show. The show, which is free to the public, will include stalls selling cheeses, chutneys, ice cream, wines and beers stalls as well as a number of kitchens with hot food including the College’s Farthing Restaurant.
